Public speaking skill is essential to an interpreter. Public speaking and interpreting have a lot in common ----not only in language competence, including intonation, pronunciation, logic, etc. but also in non-language aspects, like extensive encyclopedic knowledge, appropriate body language and excellent physiological quality. Public speaking skill is closely bonded with the quality of interpreting.Based on a speech and an interview of the world public speaking champion Ryan Avery, this report is an introduction, analysis and summary of the interpreting practice. Under the guidance of Relevance Theory, this report analyzes interpreting strategies applied in the practice, including Methods of Adding and Omitting as well as Division and Combination, Positive and Negative Method. In addition, this report reflects and solves problem found in the process of interpreting, as well as guides interpreting practice for the future.
