In recent years, language teacher education and development has drawn attention in the domestic and foreign language world. It is exceedingly significant that the needs of English teacher development should be emphasized in the vigorous training program as well as second language teacher education and development. The thesis, an empirical research, aims to investigate the needs of vocational English teachers in Shijiazhuang to provide inspirations and ideas on their development and the basis for policy-makers and researchers.On reviews of teacher development at home and abroad as well as the relevant literature, this study researches on 100 English teachers in Shijiazhuang secondary vocational schools. The thesis mainly employed semi-structured interviews and questionnaires research methods. The questionnaires investigated extensively on the needs of English teachers in Shijiazhuang secondary vocational schools on the basis of semi-structured interviews. According to the present situation of English teachers’ development in Shijiazhuang secondary vocational schools, this thesis mainly explores on the four following questions. Firstly, what is the situation of English teacher development in Shijiazhuang secondary vocational schools? Secondly, what are their development needs? Thirdly, why they have the development needs? Finally, what can teachers themselves, school administration, and society do in order to meet their needs? The results show that English teachers have mainly six aspects of needs. These are the needs of improving working facilities and treatment, updating educational belief, increasing professional knowledge, enhancing professional abilities, improving professional awareness on development, and professional training. Then the influential factors are analyzed from both internal and external aspects, and give some suggestions on their further development.
