A Report On The Translation Of Sir Alex Ferguson’s My Autobiography

This is a project report on the translation of My Autobiography by Sir Alex Ferguson. The source text includes the introduction, the preface, Chapter 1 and Chapter 14 of the book. As biography, the original text is a combination of history and literature. This characteristic requires the translator to balance the relationship between historicity and literariness. As a result, the translator should be on the one hand faithful to the original text and on the other hand creative to bring out its literary quality.This translation project, taking Functional Equivalence Theory as a guidline, and similar text as reference, and using soccer terms and the description of persons as illustrations, after analyzing the history and reviewing the literature of biography, suggests some principles and methods of biography translation, such as balancing historicity and literariness, literal translation with annotation, free translation, and amplification.
