This translation report is based on the translation of Preclude,Chapter I and Chapter II of Men of Air: The Courage and Sacrifice of Bomber Command in World War II by Kevin Wilson. The book falls into the category of the historical biography, which is characterized by both reality and literariness. It not only provides real historical information, but also highlights the features of objects and the feelings of people by various figures of speech. However,it is very difficult to represent its literariness in the process of translation. The representation of this feature in the text can be divided into phonetic figures of speech and lexical figures of speech. The phonetic figures of speech fall into two kinds: alliteration and rhyme, while lexical figures of speech three kinds: epithet, metonymy and metaphor. At the same time, the translation strategy of domestication, the translation methods such as literal translation, free translation and the combination of literal as well as free translation, and the translation techniques like addition and transformation are adopted with a view to representing its literariness.Through this translation practice, the understanding of literariness as well as its representation has been deepened and translation ability has also been somewhat improved.Meanwhile,it is hoped that this report would offer reference for the people engaged in the translation and study of the text of historical biography.
