| Thomas hardy(1840-1928) is a famous novelist, poet and playwright in British Victorian era. He was regarded as the greatest writer and poet in the Victorian era. Hardy is a prolific writer, he published fourteen novels, four volumes of short stories, eight volumes of poetry and an epic drama. It can not be ignored in his works was that the selection of the landscape image to show the charming of the nature. The scenery description in his works was full of personality and uniqueness. The description of natural scenery reflects Hardy’s thoughts of the relationship between human and nature, and Hardy’s view of nature, also we can see the changeable human’s psychological activities in the works. Hardy’s concept has western profound cultural background, and it still has positive practical significance in today’s society.This article is divided into four chapters. The first chapter described the landscape imagery in Hardy’s poetry and novels, such as the land landscape, the sky, the animals and the plants. Then clarified these imagery systematically in order to understand Hardy’s scenery. The second chapter is mainly analyzes the art characteristics in Hardy’s scenery. The third chapter mainly discusses human’s basic theme behind the landscape. The fourth chapter mainly analyses Hardy’s thoughts through the scenery description he wanted to convey, including the relationship between human and landscape. He considered that the man and the nature should be interdependence. He against people-centric view, also he thought about the fate and the tragedy in life.All in all, in Hardy’s creation, there has its distinctive features. Through the analysis in landscape images of his works, it can help us understand the relationship between human and landscape, and know his view of nature. Through these research, it still has reference significance to us and our realistic society. |
