Study On Strategies Of English-Chinese Translation Of Foods With Shanxi Characteristics

It is the long history of the agriculture, the favorably endowed natural conditions and the hospitable and kind people that give birth to the wonderful foods with Shanxi characteristics. After the Industrial Revolution, the international division of labor has become more and more obvious, and communication between countries and regions is getting much closer, which has made the world economy and culture grow fast. Since the reform and opening-up, China began to have much more connections with other parts of the world, and the eastern provinces of China are more open than the middle and west ones. However, as a big province in the central part of China, Shanxi is much less developed in economy and culture than the coastal provinces. Although, Shanxi has abundant cultural relics and intangible resources, only a few people know about it----just like Achilles’ heel that drags its rear. In order to promote its relationship between other countries and regions and enhance the spread of the great culture, this essay will focus on the Chinese to English translation of the wonderful foods with Shanxi characteristics.After discussing with teachers and classmates, translation strategies about different kinds of delicious noodles and amazing snacks will be discussed.This paper specifically deals with dish name translation and proverb translation, and after finishing the translating, we have accumulated some experience.When dish names are translated, literal translation strategy, supplementary translation strategy, free translation strategy and transliteration strategy can be deployed; and as to proverbs’translation, predicate should arouse more attention.
