This is a translation project report on the fiction The Sins of the Father, the second volume of British writer Jeffery Archer’s The Clifton Chronicles. The Clifton Chronicles consists of seven volumes and follows hero Harry Clifton’s life from his birth in 1920 to the finale in 2020. The Sins of the Father picks up exactly where the first volume Only Time Will Tell leaves off with the arrest of Harry Clifton in the US whereas his family in England believed that he died on the sea.The Sins of the Father is one of the most influential and popular fictions in the21 stcentury in English literature. As a popular fiction, it is also a continuously and frequently discussed theme in translation practice and study. To further research the translation of popular fictions, this report is divided into four parts on the basis of translation practice. Chapter One gives a general description of the translation task, including the introduction to the author and the work as well as the requirements for the task. Chapter Two is devoted to the translation process: preparation,while-translating and proofreading. Chapter Three probes into the case study on the translation from the perspective of diction and syntax respectively under the instruction of Skopos Theory and Information Structure. At the lexical level, it analyzes the target culture-oriented locutions and four-character phrases; at the syntactic level, it focuses on the translation of attributive clauses, adverbial clauses, passive sentences, existential sentence and emphatic sentences. Chapter Four draws a conclusion of the report.
