As deserted heritages, the ruins represent historical changes and are of unusual significance.Though deserted and ramshackle, the ruins can be regarded as important carriers for imagination and inspire a lot of literary works. As image characterization, their significance not only reveals the historical trajectory, but also interprets the subjectivity. In contemporary art practice, ruins image and symbol are often used for artistic creation. This fits well with the characteristics of contemporary art, including absurdness, subversion, collage and copy. The rise of contemporary Chinese art is related to the ruins. In this paper, by means of post-modern representation theory, the author analyzes the image representation of historical and cultural ruins, the image representation of urbanization process-induced demolition debris, and the image representation of abandoned building ruins left by industrialization process, and focuses on the production process and influence of these ruins symbols. This paper is of great significance to the understanding of contemporary Chinese arts and ruins aesthetics. |
