In the Information Age, hotel webpage profiles have been becoming increasingly significant for five-star hotels in the fierce competition. Well-written hotel webpage profiles can tell the potential customers effective information about the five-star hotels, establish the positive images of these hotels and persuade the potential customers to choose the specific hotels. With the development of globalization, it is also of great importance for Chinese five-star hotels to produce effectively readable translations of their hotel webpage profiles.This thesis intends to study the Chinese-English translations of five-star hotel webpage profiles under the guidance of Adaptation Theory. It focuses on the structural objects of adaptability and analyzes the hotel webpage profiles at the semantic, the syntactic as well as the textual levels. It reveals the significance of cognitive economy in the translating processes and incorporates the strategic principles of economic conciseness and theme-oriented information prominence in the analysis of these hotel webpage profiles.It has selected the webpage profiles of the five-star hotels which are located in different western countries and Chinese regions. A contrastive study of these Chinese and English five-star hotel webpage profiles has shown their similarities as well as differences regarding the linguistic features and textual development, which demonstrate the great significance of adaptation in the Chinese-English translating processes. Furthermore, this thesis has summarized the relevant strategic principles and manipulative rules in order for the translations to be adaptative to the receptive habits of western customers.
