C-E Translation Of Aviation Scientific And Technical Documents Based On The Functional Translation Theory-C-E Translation Of ARJ21-700 Airplane Documents

Confronted with such a market with great potential in civil aviation industry at home and abroad, China pays great attention to develop new civil aircraft – ARJ21-700(Advanced Regional Jet) which is first designed, developed and manufactured in accordance with the international standards and airworthiness regulations. In order to open international market to further raise the position of aviation industry of China, ARJ21-700 airplane should first obtain the airworthiness certifications from both CAAC(Civil Aviation Administration of China) and FAA(Federal Aviation Administration) through the type certification flight test of the aircraft. During this process, the C-E translation of related material becomes very urgent and important. This paper attempts to combine German functional translation theory with translation practices of aviation scientific and technical documents and hopes that it can help the translators further improve translation quality.The German functional translation theory provides significant guidance for translation of scientific and technical documents. The author studies the text typology, skopos theory, translational action and function and loyalty, and verifies that the functional translation theory is applicable to the C-E translation of aviation scientific and technical documents based on the case study.This paper analyses the text feature of aviation scientific and technical documents in lexical level, syntactic level, and proposes five characteristics of aviation documents transition: accuracy, acceptance, convenience, promptness and standardization. Under the guidance of functional translation theory, the translator can acquire the inner rule of this kind of text, thus appropriate translation skills can be adopted in the translation process: diction, conversion, literal translation, and amplification and omission.
