A Report On The Translation Of Product Introduction Of A Petrochemical Enterprise

Petroleum, known as “the blood of industry”, has become one of the main energy sources. With China’s accession into WTO, exchanges and cooperation in the petroleum industry between China and other countries have become more and more frequent. It also means that the market’s demands for both the quantity and the quality of translators in the field of petroleum are increasing.This thesis is written, based on the author’s practice of translating a petrochemical product introduction. Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory focuses on the equivalent effect of the target language and the target readers’ response. The theory is applicable to the translation practice with the main purpose of attracting the target customers.The report consists of four chapters, namely, task description, translation process and guiding theory, case analysis and conclusion. Chapeter One introduces the background information, significance of the task, and purpose of the task. Chapter Two presents the guiding theory of Functional Equivalence and the translation process in respect of pre-translation preparations, translating and reviewing. Chapter Three elaborates the author’s application of different translation strategies to achieve the equivalent translation effect at lexical, syntactical, and discourse levels. Last, in Chapter Four, the author reviews the whole translation process and shares the experience.The Babel has not been built, notwithstanding, the translators play vital role in international communication. The author realizes that to be a qualified translator, one must spare no effort in integrating theories with practice and applying theories to real translation practice.
