Psychological Well-being Of College Students:the Mediating Effect Between Life Stressor And Stress Reaction

The new "S-O-R" model of stress proposed by the new behaviorist psychologist Tolman indicated that the psychosomatic changes inside the organism (O) may produced mediating effect during the process of stress (ie. the process of which that the stressor " S" lead to the stress reaction "R"). Upon the application of this principle, this study investigated the positive impact which psychological well-being applied to the process of stress. Given there is few relevant literature, this research subject selected the university students as the object of the study, and aimed to explore the positive force which psychological well-being intervene on the process of stress. And in order to promote the healthy growth of the self of the students, we hope the results of the study may guide the positive psychological education and management counseling of the college students.In this study, based on the theory of stess and psychological well-being, we adopted the "Student-Life Stress Inventory" (SLSI) and the "Psychological Well-Being Scale" (PWBS) and selected 624 freshman randomly to investigated the general status of the students, and then we adopted the SPSS21.0 and the AMOS17.0 to analyze the data. Through the empirical analysis and psychological discussion, the conclusions are as follows:(1) The life stress situation of college students is of a medium level in general, and among all those stressors, the average score of self-reinforcing is the highest. At the same time, among all the stress reactions, the average score of their cognitive reaction is also of the highest. Additionally, colleges students generally have higher level of psychological well-being, especially in the dimension of positive relationship with others.(2) In terms of gender, there is no significant differences in psychological well-being, life stressor and stress reaction of college students. While in terms of source, rural students are of higher level of external pressures and life changes than urban students. Also on the dimension of cognitive responses, the reaction of rural students are higher than urban students. There is no significant differences of psychological well-being between groups.(3) Each factors in the process of stress can interact with the other factors. Specifically, the life stressor can induce the stress reaction significantly, and the induced effect induced by furstration stimulation and life changes is more widely. There is a significant negative effect between life stressor and psychological well-being, and that means that life stressor can interfere one’s level of psychological well-being. Psychological can buff the effect level caused by life stressors. Psychological can ease one’s stress reaction.(4) Psychological well-being can cause a partial mediating effect among the stressor and the stress reaction. The life stressor of college students can not only influence the stress reaction directly but also influence the stress reaction indirectly by way of psychological well-being. And, in the process of which stressor induced stress reaction, psychological can on the one hand buff the attack caused by life stressor, on the other hand, have an intervention effect to the stress reaction. College students’ psychological well-being is a kind of positive personality force of self stress management and growth healthy.
