The chinese dictionary is the most complete and largest scale of chinese dictionary in explaining the form, the phonetics and the meaning of chinese characters so far in the world.However, it is difficult to avoid shortcomings and mistakes at that time of objective conditions as so large scale and so many editiors of the dictionary.After ten years of revision, The second edition of the chinese dictionary was published in 2010 April.The second editiors try their best to enhance the level of the chinese dictionary by asking opinions from the various aspects and correcting the error in big flaw.There still exist many mistakes and shortcomings as the second editors of the chinese dictionary just did the medium revision and some research results had not been used. But this revision can still be classified as a summary of the research work in twenty years.My paper try to sum up the success and question of the second edition of the chinese dictionary through comparating yan radical between the first and the second edition of the chinese dictionary.The introduction part of the paper introduces the published background and the situation of academic circles of the first and the second edition of the chinese dictionary, and then explains the research methods of the paper and something to be sure.The first part to the forth part is the main content of the paper, which conclude the success and the question of the second edition of the chinese dictionary from four aspects respectively:characters, phonetics, explanation, examples.The fifth part describes the conclusion through comparating yan radical between the first and the second edition of the chinese dictionary.
