A Translation Project Report For YPT’s Chinese Official Web Pages

With the rapid development of China’s economy and the acceleration of globalization, many countries expect to develop the trade cooperation with Chinese companies. Facing this situation, more Chinese enterprises have grasped this great opportunity to occupy the international market by setting up their English web pages. And YPT is one of these companies. Based on business development research, YPT focuses on funding, incubating and operating the potential stores into the successful chain stores. The development of YPT needed to explore its business overseas, launching its publicity campaign through building the English web pages. Commissioned by YPT, the translator was assigned the task of translating YPT?s Chinese official web pages. Based on the Skopos Theory from German Functionalist School, this translation report consists of four chapters. The first chapter focuses on the task background and analysis of source text. The second chapter describes the translation process, covering the pre-translation preparation, translation schedule and after- translation management. In the third chapter, some cases are analyzed to talk about the translation strategies under the theoretical guidance of the three rules of the Functionalist Theories — skopos, coherence and fidelity. The last part is conclusion. The translator points out the drawbacks and summarizes the experience for further translation work in the similar fields. In the end, the report is expected to be a good reference for future translation, giving some insights or practical suggestions for those who translate such kind of materials.
