| The mutual communication between people from different countries has become more necessary in the process of globalization, thus the significance of the language stands out. As for language, it comes from life and contributes to it. And so do those movies and TV series, they completely replay our daily life. Due to this, learning the subtitles of them is the best way to study English. Therefore, how to make the translation of English subtitles more smooth and possess the characteristics of Chinese is what to be explored in this paper.Time and space limits are what to be considered in subtitle translation, because the true meanings and purposes of subtitles can only be reached through the most suitable words we choose. So the exact goals of translation are needed during translation process in order to decide what has to be kept and abandoned. Based on one of the most popular American sitcoms in China, The Big Bang Theory, and under the three principles of the Skopos Theory, the use of some particular parts of subtitles in The Big Bang Theory that possess the characteristics of Chinese and English is observed and analyzed in this paper so as to find out the translation strategies applied. Hopefully, this paper can be a reference and make contribute to the further study and practice of subtitle translation. |
