Conirastive Analysis Of The Translation Of Humorous Lines By YYeTs And Yidianyuan Subtitle Groups For The Big Bang Theory

In recent years, a large number of western films and TV dramas enter into China, which requires subtitle translation. Thus, the subtitle translation becomes a new field of studies. Humor is a critical part of sitcoms, so the translation of the humorous lines will play a very important role in the audiences" preference for the whole show.In this thesis, the translation of humorous lines of the Big Bang Theory by YYeTs and Yidianyuan subtitle groups are compared and analyzed. The author is willing to provoke discussion and make contribution to subtitle translation.This thesis is divided into four chapters. Chapter one is introduction, covering the background, purpose and significance of the study. Chapter two is literature review, introducing the features and relevant theories of subtitle translation. Chapter three is translation analysis. The subtitle translation of humorous lines by the two groups are compared and analyzed. In this study, the author finds that these two subtitle groups adopt diverse methods. Some lines are translated into jargons and homonymic words. Some are replaced with Chinese counterparts or converted. Chapter four is conclusion, clarifying the results and flaws.
