Precise maneuver is the most important requirement for the safety of navigation as well as the most basic ability for navigators. Therefore, the translation from English to Chinese of operation manual is practically meaningful for staff who devoted to the marine field. Operation manuals are typical maritime English which contains plenty of terms and complex sentence structures which are different from common English. Requirements of meeting the industry knowledge and following the convention of the sector are needed in order to be faithful to the source language, and hence that precise information is received by readers of the translation and communication among the staff is clear under the global working environment. Meanwhile, the translation of manuals should keep the original style with source language, which is not emotional and with the tone of order and objective description.Based on the manuals of ARPA and Lifeboat, the theory of terminology and translation code of terms are followed and methods of translation of manuals of ARPA and lifeboat are discussed; furthermore, high-frequency sentence structures are catalogued for discussing the translation approaches and translation steps of terms in manuals of ARPA and lifeboat.
