Abstract: In ancient China, things like clothing, architecture,furniture, ceramics, and so on, all carried the influence of fivethousand years of Chinese culture, its impact on art and design wasvery broad and far-reaching. In today’s China, culture is still themain theme of Chinese spirit, even with well-developed science,technology, economy, and politics. In the works of many famousChinese artists and designers, traditional elements are usedfrequently to show the spirit of Chinese art and design. Thisdemonstrates the huge influence of Chinese culture on the art anddesign. Since China began to open its door to the outside world,many excellent foreign design works appear to us and hit our souls.It has become a fashion to learn and copycat foreign designs.However, when time goes by, we begin to return to our own root,search and establish a design style which is unique to ourselves.Chinese artists and designers adopt Chinese culture again in theirworks, and make Chinese art and design to have its own identity.Chinese culture plays an import role in this process, it is anreflection of Chinese spirit. An art form or design style withoutChinese culture becomes a robot without spirit, identity, or soul.Since the beginning, the highest level of a Chinese art is the artistic conception and verve it conveys, a unique phenomenon under theinfluence of Chinese culture.
