China has emerged to be a world-wide political, economic and culturegiant in the21st century, the communication and open-up in various fields haveaccelerated her globalization speed. After the contact with many foreign students andworkers, the author noticed that these Chinese learners, most of whom in their primaryphase, did not confined their express in words, simple sentences, but made great effort toexpress in paragraph, it was from there the author began to thought about developing theability of understanding and expressing in paragraph in the primary phase. Among theforeign students who come to China for study, nearly50%of them major innon-Chinese-language study, these students, as well as foreign works in China, conducttheir Chinese learning mainly by self-learning, while self-learning depends on most onlearning materials. So it leads to another thought–explore the design of self-learningtextbook to develop the ability of understanding and expressing Chinese in paragraph inthe primary phase. Meanwhile, the author thinks about applying professional method(Systematic Instructional Design) to conduct the instruction design for self-learning.This is an applied research, based on the instructional design model–ADDIE,conducted Chinese-self-learning instruction design for the object. The learning method isself-learning due to the learners’ situation; the goal is to developing learners’ abilityof understanding and expressing Chinese in paragraph. What we get from finally is TheChinese Self-learning on Fairy tale (both book and flash courseware). The researchconducted the whole systematic design, has the practical meaning, while the book, aftertried out in certain scope, was said informative, feasibility and simple structured.
