Studies on Hermeneutics in China have been for about30years till now since it wasintroduced to China in early1980s. However, compared with the combination betweenHermeneutics and Chinese translation, it came into the field of Chinese translation studies inlate1980s. From then on. scholars in China have widely applied Hermeneutics into almostevery aspect of translation studies, which have gained the rich and valuable results both in thepirnciples of guiding bilingual translation practice and the development of Chinese translationtheory.Duirng these years, literature reviews show that there are mainly six representativebooks about Hermeneutics and translation studies. And more than two hundred related thesesare submitted for the Degree of Master or Doctor collected from CNKI. Based on thesestudies, the author tries to systematically examine the source and development ofHermeneutics and Chinese translation studies to find out what has been absorbed and meltedinto the Chinese translation studies, what roles they have played in the field and whatinfluence, or more exactly to say, what clashes have happened when the introduction ofHermeneutics and the traditional Chinese translation studies have met with each other.Through careful reading the researches which the thesis has tried its best to collect fromkinds of academic magazines, this thesis objectively affirms the new perspectives provided byintroducing Hermeneutics especially prejudice and fusion of hoirzons to Chinese translationand contributions made by applying Hermeneutics to Chinese translation studies: emphasizingtranslators’ subjectivity in the process of translation, explaining the rationality of varioustranslated versions, proposing the selectivity of the translating process and breaking theformer uniqueness of translation criteira. This thesis also acknowledges the expansion oftranslation layer by applying Hermeneutics in Chinese translation studies. Meanwhile, theauthor also points out that there are problems in the studying process of combining Hermeneutics and Chinese translation, such as excessively quoting Gadamer’s Hermeneutictheory, and many similar studies on the same topic. In a word, by systematically examining studies on Hermeneutics and Chinesetranslation, the author aims to clearly point out the significance of the application ofHermeneutics in Chinese translation and existing problems, and hopes to provide meaningfulreference for future studies in this field.
