With the development of globalization, the communication between different areas has been strengthened. The international standards are also developed to provide equal opportunities for the global trade. Business documents involving international standard study begins to attract the attention of scholars. In the process of the translation of this type of documents, translators need to have a good command of both English and Chinese language, and more importantly, be familiar with the relevant professional background information.The report, based on the selection of the author’s 10,000 words’translation of the business document Steel Tubes for Precision Applications- Technical Delivery Conditions, aims to explore the features of modality of the high-frequency modal verbs in business documents such as "shall", "should" and "may", and taking into consideration Halliday’s grading of modality value and Biberetal’s classification theory, summarize the translation skills and methods. Based on the study of the modal verbs in the above document and the problems dealt with during the translation practice, appropriate solutions are put forward, hoping to provide a reference for translations of the similar type of business documents.
