Movies and TV programs are important components of cultural products, which play a crucial role in the cultural trade, and international cultural trade has become a new field of competition in the international service trade. Movies and TV programs are special cultural products, which contain both commercial and cultural values, they can produce substantial economic benefits, and spread the values of a country and help overseas audiences get a better understanding of this country. However, the trade of our country’s movies and TV programs has been in deficit over years, and the competitiveness of the products needs to be developed. With the development of economic globalization and the application of modern media techniques, the international cultural trade will be promoted, and this will bring great opportunities for the development of our country’s movies and TV programs industry, nevertheless, the competition with other countries will be quite intense. Therefore, it is necessary to have a comprehensive and deep understanding of the current situation of our country’s trade in movies and TV programs, and to discover the factors which affect the export of our country’s movies and TV programs. These analyses will help improve the export of our country’s movies and TV programs.This paper begins with the discussion of whether some theories of international trade can apply to the analysis of international cultural trade, several research methods, including data statistics, case analysis, comparative analysis, etc. are used to analyze the current trade performance of our country’s movies and TV programs and the factors. By comparing the success cases of America and South Korea’s movie and TV program industry, the writer finally gives suggestions on promoting the export of our country’s movies and TV programs.
