Modern Chinese Literature can be dated back to Late Qing Period (1840-1911), when the defeat in the Sino-Japanese War during1894-1895awakened patriots and intellectuals at that time and encouraged them to take actions. Nevertheless, it was not until the failed Hundred Days’ Reform in1898that answered their requirement for reformation. After the disillusion of the superincumbent reformation, those scholars casted the incapable nation aside and became active spokesmen of Chinese society. Liang Qichao, the author of Ice-drinking Room Combined Collected Works was one of the towers of strength among those scholars. This thesis is a report on translation, which selects the articles with the theme of "saving the nation from subjugation and ensure its survival" from The Punctuation and Collation Version of Ice-drinking Room Combined Collected Works to carry through translation practice then uses the theory of Eco-Translatology to carry on researches. This thesis has five chapters. First, the introduction part gives an analysis to the translation material and pointes out the purpose and significance. The second chapter is literature review, which provides presentation on two aspects:one is Liang Qichao’s translation works, the other is the translation study on Liang’s translation works, both of which provide research background for this thesis. The third chapter is theoretical framework, which specifically draws the theory of Eco-Translatology as well as the related concepts into this thesis. The fourth chapter is the key chapter, which analyzes the translation practice of The Punctuation and Collation of Ice-drinking Room Combined Collected Works (excerpts) from Eco-Translatology perspective. The author illustrates several examples in the translation practice from four angles---the comparison between source text and target text in view of translational eco-environment, discourse adjustment, expressions selection and cultural background knowledge replenish. By analyzing, translation strategies for translating "New Literary Style" like Ice-drinking Room Combined Collected Works have been summarized. The fifth chapter draws the conclusion for this thesis:the theory of Eco-Translatology provides valid theoretical foundation for this translation practice. After the purpose of translation being specified, the strategy of "three-dimensional transformation" should be adopted in translation practice to better direct translator to carry on "adaptation and selection" and thus to optimize the quality of translation. In addition, the author points out the innovative points of this thesis. First, the author makes comparative analysis between the two key factors in translational eco-environment-source text and target text. Originally used to analyze microphenomenon, the "three-dimensional transformation" is flexibly used by the author in discourse comparison between source text and target text and cross-linguistic comparison between source language and target language in the thesis. Second, due to the fact that both Liang’s work and the theory of Eco-Translatology are inspired by darwinian evolution, understanding between "natural ecology" and "translational eco-environment" should be deepen. By choosing words and framing sentences, the vivid feature of natural ecology can suitably reappear in translation to enhance its readability. Furthermore, limitations of this translation report have been mentioned in the last part to provide reference for further translation researches.
