E-C Translation Of The Fourth Chapter Of Reading Zoos And A Critical Commentary

This project is an E-C translation practice which includes2parts. The first part is a translation about20000Chinese characters translated from the Fourth Chapter "Pain" of the English book of ecoriticism entitled with Reading Zoos:Representations of Animals and Captivity. The second part is a translation report which is finished by the guidance of functional equivalence theory initiated by Eugene Albert Nida. In this part, the author explains the specific translation strategies and approaches in detail, aiming at achieving the effects of functional equivalence theory.The original English text is written by Professor Randy Malamud from Georgia State University of the U. S. in1998. The Fourth Chapter "Pain" mainly deals with the pain that animals suffer in several works or documents, involving the problems of their real living conditions, housing, health care, food and surviving time. These indicate the misery of those captive wild animals in a panoramic way, thus arousing people’s deep thinking about malpractices of zoos and their ardor of being kind to wild animals. The significance of this project is to specifically perform animals’ bitter experience through translating the English book, then to provide a reference for scholars who study ecocriticism and readers who are interested in this field.
