Jia Bingzheng, a famous Jin Opera drummer, was born in anordinary family. He deeply loved Jin Opera percussion, especiallydrum art from an early age. He regularly shows up at the theater and"Big cymbals", which organized by amateur. Under carefullyobservation of different sign in different plays and his imitation,self-study and hard practice, he accumulated a lot of basic knowledgeand skill and the recognition of the importance of the art of drum.During this time, his father objected to this for several times but hestudied harder instead of gave up. On stage, he is a silent learner, buton his own small stage setting up with small table, small stools,picture postcard, small gong, small cymbals and all kinds of smallstructures, he seems like a battle-hardened drummer. His persistenceand unremitting pursuit not only touched his father, but alsogained acceptance about his skills from masters in the theater. In1946, Jia Bingzheng formally ackonwledged Wang Desheng as hismaster, who began to learn Jin Opera percussion formally. Withmaster Wang’s guidance and his hard training on "iron prod", hisskills improved day by day. At the same time, he began to step onstage, giving some playlet accompaniment. With his effort, he finallyowned the position of "Kowloon exit".Until1949, Master Wang moved to south, Jia Bingzheng bore theposition of drummer himself. On the accompaniment with the actors,he just played through the accumulation of his past and the master’steaching. Moreover, he absorbed other master’s strengths, gropingeach play’s drum. During this process, Jia Bingzheng’s skill was notonly progressive but also stagnant. Without his master’s correction and his so-called "eclecticism", his drum art is not standard. On therecommendation of other masters, Jia Bingzheng took Zhao Tingjie(Master Run Sheng) as his teacher in1955. From then on, JiaBingzheng learned modestly, correcting his non-standard problem insign method. In addition, he learned the "MeiHuaJianFa"(called"JiuMingJianZi" by masters) and "FanJianZi" and so on. With thegradually cognizing of his drum cooperation with band and actors, hisdrum skill become more and more mature. Meanwhile, Jia Bingzhengmet master Cheng Yuying, who let his stage career brilliant. Theycooperated with each other for sixty years.Through cooperated withCheng Yuying and other masters such as Ding Guoxian, Zheng Yalouetc. Jia Bingzheng had taken great strides in his drum art progress.With his wife Dong Yuqin’s sacrifice and the persistence of the stepby step, Jia Bingzheng achieved great success in dram art. Heaccompanied more than one hundred plays and got recognition frommany actors and audiences. But he is not satisfied with this, he spentmore than ten years to write the "Jin Opera Percussion" and "JinOpera Traditional Drums Spectrum"(first\second\third), at the sametime, he also taught students, cultivating a lot of outstandingapprentice. Jia Bingzheng really wished to left his lifetime learningfor later generations and make a contribution to the development ofJin Opera.This paper started from the aspects of his artistic career, tellingthe story about Jia Bingzheng’s art life. Through thedetailed interpretation of dram spectrum, this paper hoped to helpmore Jin Opera lovers and learners. Besides, this paper also made asummary about Jia Bingzheng’s cognition on drum art and histeaching idea and dram skills inheritance and exploration. All thesecan enlighten the students as well as teaching reform of art school.As for Jia Bingzheng, good reputation of behavior and skill is notonly just a single word, but also a kind of spirit and power we arepracting today.
