English simultaneous interpretation, as one of the highly demanding modes ofinterpreting for English competence, is my favorite subject during my graduate study.Based on a mock of E-C SI of an edition of the program Dialogue on CCTV News, the thesis is written to comprehensively examine the author’s English competence andSI capability, so that his interpreting problem will be identified and solutions can beoffered for improvement. The thesis is a reflective report. Therefore, the author adoptsthe simulation method to design and fulfill the task. After that, on the basis ofreflection and self-assessment, he adopts the qualitative analysis method and classifiesall the problems into five major ones and exemplifies each of them with two or threecases. By reading literature and making an introduction about some interpretingtheories, the author offers the corresponding strategies for the five problems. On the basis of a self-assessment, five major problems have been pointed out. They are comprehension problems, problems in choice of words, problems with longsentences, problems with new words and terms and problems with figures respectively.Under the guidance of the predecessor’s experience, the author later offers theseproblem’s corresponding strategies, namely, syntactic linearity, reformulation, anticipation, guessing and other strategies. The mock and this thesis havecomprehensively examined the author’s SI capability. Having recognizing hisdeficiency in SI, the author is expected to accumulate experiences and learn lessonsfrom this thesis to solve the problems and improve his SI capability.
