A Study Of The Strategies Concerning Cultural Elements In Business English Interpreting

The mainstream of world development is economic integration. World economicinterdependence brings the collision between different cultures. Business Englishinterpreting as a bridge of communication arises at this historic moment, and plays amore and more important role in economic globalization. There are wide differencesbetween Eastern and western culture in historical tradition, way of thinking andlanguage habits. Therefore, cross-cultural business interpreting is not only the simpleconversion between two languages, also contains cultural interpretation. Culturalelements increasingly draw more attention as a branch of interpreting research, andbusiness English interpreting is a significant activity in the dynamic economy life.The study on the strategy of cultural elements interpretation in it possesses importantvalue.This thesis attempts to study the strategies of cultural elements interpretation inbusiness English through the analysis on examples of business English interpretingpractice, and this exploration takes functional translation theory as the instruction.Interpreters should adopt different interpreting strategies and methods to effectivelysolve cultural barriers in business interpreting. Functional translation theory believesthat translation should base on the analysis of the source language and emphasize thepurpose of translation, at the same time, take consideration into different culturalfactors and contexts, then, choose the best translation methods. Functional translationprovides the theory support and the basis about exploration cultural elementsinterpretation strategy in English business. Through case study method, this thesisdraws a conclusion that foreignizing and domesticating strategy can effectivelyresolve the cultural obstacles in business English interpreting.
