Objective: To investigate the status of university students’ attitude toward seekingprofessional psychological help and its relationship with personality traits and perceivedsocial support for improving the professional psychological help and providing the basisto promote university students’ mental health level.Methods: This study takes university students in grade one and grade three from AnhuiNormal University,Wannan Medical College and Anhui Engineering University asresearch object, using self-designed general information questionnaire, RevisedEysenck Personality Questionnaire Short Scale For Chinese, Attidude toward SeekingProfessional Psychological Help Scale and Perceived Social Support Scale.Results:①University students’ attitude towards seeking psychological help showsdifferences on gender, grade, major and the experience of seeking help. Femalestudents’ attitude toward seeking help is more positive than male(P<0.01); freshmen aremore positive than juniors(P<0.05);there are differences between the attitude ofdifferent major of university students’ professional psychological help, the students’ ofnormal attitude toward seeking help are more positive than science and medicalscience(F<0.05); In these students who had seeked psychological help and those had not,the difference was statistically significant(P<0.001).②University students’ neuroticism of personality traits is higher than the national norm(male and female (P <0.001, P<0.05); The junior boys’ neuroticism (P<0.001) and psychoticism(P<0.001) are higher than the national norm, the junior girls’ psychoticism(P<0.001), neuroticism (P<0.001) and lie(P<0.01) are higher than the national norm.③University students’ perceived social support shows differences on gender, gradeorigin and encount courses. Female students’ perceived social support is higher thanmale students(P<0.01);Junior students’ perceived social support is higher thanfrsehmen(P<0.05).The students’ from countryside percived social support is higher thanthe students from city(P<0.05);those students’ who encount courses percived socialsupport is higher than those not(P<0.05).④University students’ attitude towards seeking professional psychological help showspositive correlation with psychoticism and neuroticism.⑤University students’ attitude toward seeking professional psychological help showspositive correlation with their percived social support.The higher score of percivedsocial support shows the more positive attitude toward seeking professional help.Conclusion: There are mang differences in university students’ attitude towards seekingfor professional psychological help, personality traits and perceived social support.Professional help have a certain relationship with personality and percived socialsupport.
