The Biography And Document Of The Records Of Vietnamese Poetry

Chinese culture has a profound influence on Vietnam, especially the poetic culture. Numerous talented poets sprung up under the influence of Chinese classic poems. Han poetry becomes an important part of Vietnamese literature. The previous studies on Vietnamese poetry in Chinese lay their emphasis on the influence of Chinese classic poetry on Vietnamese poetry.The Records of Vietnamese Poetry (the edition transcripted by Hanoi Han Nan institute A.1262),15volumes, records2408poems written by175poets from Ly Dynasty to the reign of Hongde of Le Dynasty. Of the existing collections of poems, it is the most important one because of the quantitative poems, which has a significant influence on the study of Vietnamese poetry. This study makes an investigation and data compilation of The Records of Vietnamese Poetry based on Vietnam’s existing historical records and novels in an attempt to compensate the study documents for Vietnamese poetry in Chinese.The biography of the poets in The Records of Vietnamese Poetry refers to the amendment of the poets’profiles concerning their names, birthplaces, official careers and the number of their existing poems. It is based on such books as Dayue shiji guanshu,’Qinding yueshi tongjiangangmu, Dingqie dayue lichao dengkelu. It is also based on the biography in such books as Huang yue Poetry and Zhaiyan Poetry.The document of The Records of Vietnamese Poetry refers to the compilation of the anecdotes, especially those about the creation of the poems, and the comments on the poets and their poems.The investigation and data compilation of The Records of Vietnamese Poetry provide a reliable basis to the understanding and study of the themes of Vietnamese poetry, the personality and style of each poet, and even the poem feature of each era.
