A Translation Practice Report On Safety Work Practices Manual Of CDB Gas Project

In oil&gas industry, numerous Chinese enterprises are quickening their cooperation with foreign countries in the pursuit of their cutting-edge development technique and management model. An important manifestation is the flourishing Sino-foreign oil and gas projects. As one of the crucial parts in global oil&gas industry, HES system is used by global oil and gas companies to reduce and eliminate the potential risk in health, environment and safety as well as to protect personnel safety and ecological environment during oil and gas exploration and exploitation. This thesis, taking the safety work practices manual drafted by Chevron company in CDB gas project as translation material, mainly analyzes the safety management measures from the perspective of translation studies.This thesis consists of two parts. The first part is translation practice of safety work manual with translation principles and strategies flexibly applied in this translation activity. The terminology, abbreviation and fixed expressions in word and phrase translation and the nominalization, imperative sentence, elliptical sentence and passive voice have also been highlighted and analyzed during the translation process.The second part is the translation report and summary consisting of4chapters. Chapter One is the translation practice introduction touching upon translation background, translation significance and theoretical guidance; Chapter Two gives a detailed introduction to source text in terms of manual contents, linguistic style and structural features; Chapter Three expatiates translation difficulties and strategies with numerous examples from the angles of word and phrase translation, diagram translation and sentence translation; Chapter Four is the concluding remark mainly talking about the problem unsolved and lessons learned.It is hoped that this translation activity can serve as an example of integration between translation theory and practice, give some guidance to translators and interpreters in translation principles and techniques study and provide some references for personnel both working in CDB gas project and other Sino-foreign oil and gas projects and companies in document translation.
