The Study Of The Adverb "Duoshao"

“duoshao” is a word of being used frequently，with many meaningsand parts of speech.This paper focuses on the usage of the adverb“duoshao”, through the discussion of parts of speech of “Duoshao” andthe comparison between “duoshao”and“shaowei”explaining thedifferences above the comparison, how “duoshao” works as a modaladverb and where it come from.“duoshao”can be used as a modal adverbin what situation, to get a new understanding of“duoshao”.First of all, finding out the number of the meanings of “duoshao”through modern Chinese dictionary entries, and the study of the relatedpapers.“duoshao”has many entries including interrogative pronouns，thenumber pronouns, degree adverb and modal adverb. This paper focus onthe adverb usage. In this paper we only consider “duoshao”as a adverb,so we do not mark it specially.“duoshao”as a degree adverb is similar with degree adverb “shaowei”meaning slightly some of their differences are due to the confusion of the usage of“duoshao”as modal adverb and degree adverb. By proving“duoshao” is a modal adverbs we can well explain the differencesbetween “duoshao”and“shaowei”.Through why “duoshao”and“shaowei”are different and the modaladverb criteria onced be studied to prove“duoshao”is a modal adverb, andwhere the modal adverb “duoshao”comes from.Identificating “duoshao”as a modal adverb.then when it is used, inwhat sentence “duoshao” is as a modal adverbs, draw the conclusionmodal adverb “duoshao”can be used in what time and in what situations.Because of subjectivity of modal adverb“duoshao”,it has manypragmatic functions.Through the above study of“duoshao”to obtain a more deeplyunderstanding of how “duoshao”is used.
