The existential construction is a characteristic Chinese sentence patternwith rich research results. It’s regarded as an important part in the progressof second language teaching because of its special pragmatic functions.While teaching in Mongolian University of Science and Technology, the writerfind that foreign students don’t master it well. We can find many errors in theirexercises. What’s more, students evade it when they should use existentialconstruction. There are also some problems in teaching progress. Thanks toits obvious constructive feature, teachers prefer to use formula method andconsider it’s easy to teach. But it’s impossible to reveal its particular expressfunction just by some formulas, not to mention students grasping and using itproficiently. As a result, it’s very easy for students to bogged down afteracquiring several simple sentence patterns. So it’s imperative to researcheffective teaching methods of Chinese existential construction.In the background of rich ontology research of Chinese existentialconstruction, firstly, the writer collected many existential sentences fromstudents’ exercises and HSK dynamic composition corpus. And then weclassify the errors and investigate causes from different aspects. Secondly, westudy the arrangement of Chinese existential construction in six typicalsyllabuses and materials. Combining its classification study and Errorsituation, we work out the teaching content and main points. Thirdly, afterworking out the optimum acquiring sequence of Chinese existentialconstruction, we make a staged teaching design and carry out it in a class. Atlast, we choose another class as reference and make a test to the two classes.Through analyzing test results, some introspection and melioration to theteaching design will be given.
