| This thesis aims to explore coping methods on influencing factors in liaisoninterpreting. The author takes her own liaison interpreting experience in JilinUniversity Museum as reference.There are three chapters in the thesis in addition to a brief introduction and aconclusion. In the introduction part, the background, object and significance of thisthesis are introduced. The first chapter is the task description of liaison interpreting. Inthe four sections in this chapter, the author covers the background, preparation,process and assessment of the interpreting task respectively. The second chapterexplores influencing factors in the liaison interpreting practice. The three sectionselaborate separately on linguistic factors and extra-linguistic factors, environmentalfactors and cross-cultural factors. The third chapter focuses on coping methods on thefactors mentioned in the previous chapter. There are also three sections correspondingto those in Chapter Two. The first section explores coping methods on linguistic andextra-linguistic competence which include bilingual knowledge and cognitivecompetence. And the second section focuses on environment-related methods whichencompass familiarization with the venue and physiological and psychologicaltraining. In the last section, significance of cross-cultural awareness in liaisoninterpreting practice is discussed.In the conclusion part, the author puts forward that though influencingfactors cannot be avoided completely, they can be reduced to some degree with theeffective use of proper coping methods. To achieve this, interpreters shoulddemonstrate in their interpreting practices both a rigorous academic attitude and astrong commitment to self-enhancement. |
