Capital Guest House of Northern WEI dynasty is a diplomatic institution withadministrative functions mainly deals with foreign nations or states such as receivingenvoys, surrenders and dependents. Previous studies on the Capital Guest House ofNorth WEI dynasty have obtained certain research results, but rather dispersed andthere is still large room to explore with this topic. In this thesis, related handeddown literature and the epitaph are sorted and analyzed, the management structure,selection of officials and the function of the Capital Guest House of Northern WEIdynasty are further studied and discussed.The content of thesis can be summarized as follows:The first chapter is the focus of the whole thesis, discussing the setup of theCapital Guest House. Based on the previous studies and combined the related handeddown literature, the setup time, location and characters during Pingcheng period aswell as the name, the setup time, location and residential staffs during Luoyang periodare discussed. This chapter focused on comparison of the location and residential staffchange before and after the capital move..In the second chapter, the management structure and selection criteria ofgoverning officials are discussed. Two main focuses in this chapter are Zhukeling(under Dahonglu discipline) and Shangshuzhukecao (Shangshusheng class). As toselection criteria of governing officials, three major aspects including debating skills,appearance, and background are mainly studied and explained.The third chapter talks about the diplomatic functions of Northern WEI CapitalGuest House, especially the importance of acting as receiving and managing agencies.This chapter covers three aspects of the diplomatic functions of Capital Guest House:First, reception of foreign guest; Second, service management; Third, information collection.The last part is the conclusion and the sublimation of the whole thesis. Thischapter reveals the significance of Capital Guest House in easing North-Southconfrontation, promoting economic prosperity and cultural exchange from political,economic and cultural aspects. This chapter also shows the profound implications onGuest House in later years.
