Ji Jiu Zhang is compiled by Shi You during the period of Emperor Yuan of Hanin the Western Han Dynasty. It is a commonly used dictionary for childrenenlightenment education from Han and Wei Dynasties to Tang Dynasty. The contentof Ji Jiu Zhang covers all aspects of society, and is abundant in natural and socialknowledge. The thesis mainly makes analysis according to the models of writtencharacters in the book of rubbings from Ji Jiu Zhang of Song jiang version. As theversion belongs to the book of rubbings, some models of written characters may havechanged. However it generally reflects the condition of characters adopted by thesociety at that time, which causes profound influence for the development of Chinesecharacters in later generations.Currently, the researches on Ji Jiu Zhang mainly center on calligraphy art, whilefewer center on the configuration of Chinese characters, and the researches on itsinternal regularity and configuration features are also not enough. In aspect of theresearches on Ji Jiu Zhang, Liu Weijie’s doctoral dissertation Analysis on Ji Jiu Zhangmakes a comprehensive research on its content. Li Hongzhi’s doctoral dissertationResearch of Cursive Hand in Han Dynasty makes a systematic exploration to thecursive hand in Han Dynasty. As the representative of Zhang Cao (a specific kind ofcursive hand of Chinese calligraphy), Ji Jiu Zhang is of great research significance,but lacks research on the configuration of Chinese characters. So, it is necessary tomake a systematic exploration to Ji Jiu Zhang synchronically and diachronically. Thethesis is divided into five chapters:The First Chapter is Introduction, which mainly makes a simple introduction toJi Jiu Zhang of Songjiang version from aspects of its publication, content andbackground. It narrates the research status of Ji Jiu Zhang, introduces the researchcontent, methodology of the thesis and highlights the research significance andpurpose.The Second Chapter is the configuration relationship of Ji Jiu Zhang. Based onWang Ning’s configuration theory of Chinese characters, the thesis raisesdifferential mode characters, heterogeneous characters and Homoglyph, and describesthe internal system of Ji Jiu Zhang of Songjiang version in detail. It explores itsconfiguration rules, reveals various approaches of its structure evolution andtheoretical basis of configuration. The thesis also compares it with China’s history of Chinese characters, and explores its rules of historical changes.The Third Chapter is the Influence of Ji Jiu Zhang to Regular Script. Zhang Caois produced on the basis of character patterns of official script and regular script. Onthe contrary, Zhang Cao will also influences regular script, like the standardizedcharacters and simplified characters of cursive script, etc. Therefore, it is necessary toexplore calligraphy works of Ji Jiu Zhang, and to study the study the influence ofcursive script to regular script, as well as the approaches and methods of Chinesecharacters simplification.The Fourth Chapter is about Ji Jiu Zhang and Zhang Cao. It discusses thecharacteristics of Zhang Cao. Combined with the configuration rule of Ji Jiu Zhang,the thesis discusses the writing styles and its influence to the calligraphy history of JiJiu Zhang from aspect of calligraphy study.The Fifth Chapter is the Conclusion. It summarizes the configurationcharacteristics of Ji Jiu Zhang of Songjiang version. Through the study, it is foundthat its configuration conforms to the characteristics of cursive script.
