A Criticism Of Liu Zhiji’s Comment On Zuo Zhuan In Shitong

Most research about Zuo Zhuan are elaborated and demonstrated from the study of Confusion classics and literature. Comparatively, it is rarely studied from the point of literature and history. A good number of scholars specialize in studying Shitong, the first Chinese work of historiography. Liu Zhiji, who compiled Shitong, elaborated his commentaries on historical work from the point of historiography. It’s worth mentioning his fantastic analysis of Zuo Zhuan, especially of its historical and literal characteristics. On the basis of previous research, this thesis is dedicated to explore the criticism of Shitong on Zuo Zhuan from the view of historiography. Moreover, it attempts to reveal the historical and literal characteristic of Zuo Zhuan, especially its characteristic of historiography.
