Yongchun woodcarving, with a long history, is an important part of Fujian woodcarving. As one of the best preserved Yongchun woodcarvings, Yongchun Zhenwu Temple Nianjiao reflects the folk art of the south Fujian and the subtle characteristics of local culture for its exquisite carving skills with a variety of carving patterns.On the basis of field investigation and taking Yongchun Zhenwu Temple Nianjiao as the research object, this thesis shows the carving skills and artistic features of Yongchun Nianjiao woodcarving at that time by the combination of subject knowledge and research methods of folklore, iconology, sociology, culturology and so on.This thesis firstly introduces the production and development history and function application of Yongchun Zhenwu Temple Nianjiao. Secondly, through the analysis of woodcarving skills and content of Yongchun Zhenwu Temple Nianjiao, it explores the intrinsic links of south Fujian folk craft and folk culture and shows the unique role Nianjiao played in the Yongchun folk culture. Thirdly, contrast with Taiwan and Chaozhou woodcarving crafts, it explores the association between the Yongchun woodcarving and that of Fujian and Taiwan and Guangdong region.The research on Yongchun Zhenwu Temple Nianjiao fills the blank of Yongchun woodcarving skills research, which contributes to the intangible cultural heritage protection of south Fujian as well as the research of its impact on the woodcarving development in Fujian, Taiwan and Chaozhou region, increasing people’s awareness of Yongchun carvings. |
