The application and research of Light and shadow in wash painting are the improvement and reformation mainly conducted in the manner of inheriting and fusing meanwhile, which is an aristic phenomenon with typical characteristics of the times in response to the diversified aesthetic demands. When Light and shadows are applied in wash painting, they have the effect of describing vividly, creating a humorous, natural, harmonious and unimaginably delicate form of aesthetics, during which the object of the painting and the artist’s inner emotion are kept in harmony. So this kind of course greatly affects the zigzag and complicated evolution track, and meanwhile, its course encounters with various changes in different phases of development. Thus, to systematacially figure out the emergence, development and application, and have a comprehensive academic analysis about the elements used in wash painting and gains and losings during the process of aesthetic appreciation is helpful for us to understand how the wash paiting reacts under the great influences of both Chinese tradition and western culture, and in what kind of manner it can keep the traditional connotation, in order to ensure that it can provide us with some aspects worthy of reference in the process of in herting and fusing, thus crediting the application of Light and shadow the deserved academic positioning. The research proves that the application of Light and shadow is developing under the influences of historical back ground, fresh atmosphere caused by reformation of similar art and diversified aesthetic demands. In means of aristic expression, form of structure and the expression of color, the Light and shadow takes on different aesthetic connotation. Also, during the period of creating painting, there are gains and losings existing at the same time. Consequently, I endeavor to make a tranformation from being restricted from purely using Brush Construction to making full use of Light and shadow and establish a wash painting of human beings with my own aristic style in the visual form of Light and shadow.
