The region of India’s northeast has the special geographical location, bordering with China, Bhutan, Burma, Bangladesh, and the relatively isolated from the mainland of India, shaped like a triangle on the map. The region’s ethnic composition is very complex, There are big differences between each other of customs, languages, lifestyle and religionsAs a tiny ethnic group, the disparity in identity between the Nagas and the mainland of Indian and the plains of Assam, has lead to continuous conflict with the Government of India since the independence of India. The Naga ethnic separatism has become a microcosm of separation and insurgency in the northeast of India. There has been continuous ethnic separation and insurgency for more than half a century. At different times, some of the main organizations became major forces among the Naga area leading regional political movement and deeply affecting the regional situation. The political groups such as NNC, NPC, NSCN,played their significant roles on the development of the ethnic separatist movement. The fluctuation of these group also reflected the transformation of the Naga public demands. The ethnic separation and insurgency has brought many disasters and much pain for the Government and the local people. For a long period the region has suffered severe ethnic and religious conflicts with all sorts of anti-government armed groups. The disturbed situation has caused much trouble for the Government of India, and constrained the policy-making of foreign affairs.Since the beginning of 21st century, although the major separatist rebels in northeast of India has been basically subsided, but the cause of the movement which has been for such a prolonged period is worthy of reflection. In addition to the special tribal diversity and inherent tradition of "autonomy", the imbalance of economic policy and the lack of normal communication channel has triggered the separatism and terrorism. On the specific response, the Government of India has tried many means to integrate the separatist groups such as politic, military, economic, diplomatic means. The political negotiation is an most important means. As the success of India’s economy, military crackdowns on the separatist groups, coupled with the continuous development of economy has increased much attraction of Indian identity.
