According to previous studies on the history of photography in China, the techniques of photography was first introduced and applied in Guangdong Province. In this paper, photography in refers to the technology of camera obscura and photochemistry. Photography in China not only grew with the rising of integration technology, but also produced active practical creations with the acceleration of imagination. The creativity and development of western photography have also greatly influenced the inheritance and innovation of photography in China. Photography has changed the people’s perception, habit and environment of vision in China, while photography itself has been constantly modified by Chinese and gradually formed the Chinese concept of photography which is different from western photography. The famous men that introduced photography to China was Mr. Zou Boqi.Zou Boqi (1819-1869), born at Michong of Nanhai in Guangdong Province, styled himself as "Yige" and "Teren", was an scientist in Qing Dynasty who was skilled in optics, astronomy, mathematics, metrology and measurement, etc. He has done the surveying and mapping of Guangdong Province, and made instruments such as telescope, microscope, camera, muddy ball apparatus and Qi Zheng instrument. In his later life, Zou devoted himself in the study and practice of photography. He installed photoreceiver (i.e. diaphragm), Spring buttonl (i.e. shutter), and self-made photographic film on his photography machine which become the camera. Besides, his works of optics Ge Shu Bu and manuscript On the Machine of Photography are important literature of how photography arises in modern China. Both Chinese and foreign experts are interested Zou’s studies. Under the historical environment of intensive cultural conflict and integration, either home creation or introduction from abroad, Zou has left his deep imprint on the development venation and the artistic connotation of photography. According to the studies on Zou, we can tell that Zou was simple and modest in character, inclusive in academics and pioneer in practice. He has had great influence on the cultural connotation and internal logic of photography in China, especially on the reference and integration of photography and traditional Chinese painting which well interprets the origins of Chinese history and culture. From the individual studies on Zou, this paper compares Zou with other artists and thus perceives the objective characteristics of Chinese culture under the photography perspective. The process that the public accepts photography also presents its aesthetic value of photography in the aesthetic education category. With the early development of photography in China as an observed object and Zou Boqi as a representative, this paper reviews the early history of photography in China in mid 20th Century and discusses the future development of photography education in China on that basis. Under the contradictory background between the rapid development of photographic equipment and immature education on photography education, photography in China is facing a low-level problem, due to insufficient support on photographic art from the society, improper hardware equipment and major setting for photography majors in universities, and lack of faculty on photography education, etc. To gradually build up the photography education system with photographic culture education at the core, universities should: make improvements in the following aspects such as cultivating talents by classified methods, strengthening faculty construction, increasing financial input, building flexible curriculum for photography program, and broadening the level of: photography education, etc.
