Whether a poet can ignore the outside noise and rapid changes to insist on getting into the difficulty of writing, and what’s more, to embed the holistic spiritual pursuit deeply into his whole writing life, this may be considered as one of the most effective ways to evaluate if the poet is truly being honest to himself, to the poem writing as well as to the present age. Wang Jiaxin, as an outstanding Chinese poet who always gives great concern to the age, his thinking of the relationship between himself and his own age continues to deepen in his later works. This deepening phenomenon on the one hand comes from the attitude Wang Jiaxin has learned from the German poet Paul Celan, on the other hand, is also rooted in his later poem writing style which is becoming much more quite, lowering and abundant. This dissertation selects "late period" as a standing point, focusing on the first-hand material including Wang Jiaxin’s poems, poetics and translation, using analysis method such as close reading, in order to explore the recent changes appear in Wang’s later works. The dissertation takes previous studies as a base, but distinguishes from the existing studies which mainly discussed Wang’s works of 1980s and 1990s, aims to make his poetic inspirations and creative practice after 2000 as a key point.Chapter 1 starts from Wang Jiaxin’s understanding of "late style", through the analysis of Wang’s translation and poetry review about Celan’s works, we will gradually reveal the enlightenment and resonance Wang has got from Celan’s attitude of "rejection" and "nothing" as well as his consistent recalling of time and memory.Chapter 2 focuses on Wang’s recent poems. The closely reading method will help to experience and observe those factors such as the overall subsidence, contraction of the poetry tone, continuous recalling of the memory and the much quieter and personalized attitude toward contemporary age. The investigation can give prominence to the understanding of "late period".On basis of the above two chapters, Chapter 3 mainly discusses Wang Jiaxin’s thinking of the relationship between a poet and its own age. Such thinking comes from his earlier poem writing practice, and is becoming more and more profound in his recent works because of the "late " factors’participation.Based upon the above-mentioned investigation and analysis, the dissertation will to some extent reveal the possible "late style" factors in Wang Jiaxin’s recent works, then, to get a deeper understanding of Wang Jiaxin-a poet always be honest and sincere to the poem writing, and what’s more, to enrich our comprehension of the contemporary Chinese poems as well as the poets’spirit.
