Wang Jiaxin is one of the most controversial poets in the history of contemporary Chinese new poetry. He is not a prolific poet, nor is he a poet who tries to win the readers by catering to their sentiments. His main poetry anthology includes Commemoration, Poems by Wang Jiaxin, and Wandering Cliff. In addition to the publication of his poetry anthology, Wang has also published numerous essays on poetry, which complements his poetry writing. This paper is intended to provide an overview of Wang's poems, an analysis and review of the content as well as the artistic forms in his poems. The paper is divided into three parts. The first part focuses on the analysis of Wang's poems. It covers Wang's understanding of life and existence, the experience of the lonely soul, the interpretation of the fate of hardship, and the concerns about the ultimate value. The second part discusses the artistic forms of Wang's poems. It includes intertextuality, fragments and dirge writing. The third part evaluates the significance and impact of Wang's poems on our life today. It concentrates on the characteristics of Wang's poems in terms of the construction of spiritual civilization and artistic exploration. It also contains Wang's contributions to the development of new poetry. The conclusion points out that Wang is still half way "on the road" in his exploration in the realm of new poetry. Positive in significance, his poems represent a potential new direction in poetry writing nowadays.
