| Self-handicapping is defined as individual’s adopting actions or choice which attribute task failure or poor performance in an possible others-evaluation circumstance. Procrastination refer to voluntarily delay an intended course of actions despising to be worse-off for delay. It involves the postponement of initiating or completing a task or commitment until the last minute. Through literature review shows that both are affected by cognitive and task setting individual circumstances, the use of behavioral and cognitive intervention programs together.In Study 1, self-reported scales were conducted to a randomized selected sample size of 317 participants, aimed to explore the level of students’ academic self-handicapping and procrastination, as well as the relationship between the two. In Study 2, 30 collage students were selected as subjects who had highly rated on scales who presumed to be high level high self-handicapping tendencies and high levels of procrastination. Treatment group with 15 participants received a 8-week cognitive behavior coaching as intervention approach.The control group of 15 participants was used to evaluate the effects of cognitive behavior coaching intervention process.As the result,(1) the phenomenon of tendency on academic self-handicapping and procrastination exist in collage students academic life to some degree, and both of them showed significant difference across grades;(2) academic self-handicapping had significant correlate with procrastination, especially that the self-handicapping can be effectively predict the level of procrastination;(3) intervention with cognitive behavior coaching could effectively reduce the occurrence of academic procrastination situations of collage students. |
