The Role Of The Third Party’s Positive Evaluation On Transgressor In Trust Repair

Trust repair is aimed to make the victim’s trusting intention and trusting beliefs towards the transgressor more positive after the violation. Recently, with the sliding of social credit indicators, trust repair gradually get the attention of the researchers at home and abroad. Different from the prior research, which just focus on the transgressor and victim, the study introduced the third party into the trust repair system and explore the role of the third party’s positive evaluation on transgressor in trust repair.Using the methods of investment game、scenario simulation and Questionnaire Survey to complete the study.There are three studies in the research: Study one aimed to explore whether the third party’s positive evaluation on the transgressor has the positive effect of trust repair; Study two aimed to explore where different trust violation type and different positive evaluation type can lead to different degrees of trust repair;Study three aimed to explore the authority of the third party and the accuracy of the positive evaluation’s effect to the effectiveness of trust repair. Get following results:(1)The positive evaluation of the third party has a significant effect of trust repair no matter in the laboratory situation or simulated reality situation.The group getting the positive evaluation from third party got a higher degree of trust repair than the contrast group.(2)The effect of trust repair has a significant difference between different type of trust repair. The integrity-based trust violation can lead to a deeper damage to the trust and is more difficult to repair the trust through the third party’s positive evaluation than the competence-based trust violation.(3)There were significant interactions among the type of trust violation and the type of positive evaluation:For the competence-based trust violation, the competence-based positive evaluation can lead to a better trust repair effect;For the integrity-based trust violation, there are no significant difference between different positive evaluation types.(4)The effect of trust repair has a significant difference between different authority of third party and between different accuracy of the positive evaluation. The third party with higher authority can lead to a higher degree of trust repair than the third party with lower authority.The positive evaluation with higher authority can lead to a higher degree of trust repair than the third party with lower authority.(5)There is no significant interactions among authority of third party and accuracy of the positive evaluation. But there is complementary effects between them. When a third party’ authority is low, the accuracy of the positive evaluation has a significant impact on the restoration of trust. The positive evaluation with higher accuracy can lead to a better trust repair effect than the lower one. When the positive evaluation’s accuracy is low, The third party with higher authority can lead to a higher degree of trust repair than the third party with lower authority.Finally, the paper puts forward some educational suggestions. First, in addition to the good faith values education to students, the school shoud teach the students how to repair the trust after a violation. Second, as authoritative individuals in class, teachers should pay positive attention to the dynamics of trust and communication among the students. And if found that students appeared breach of trust, teachers should be actively coordinate and help them repair the trust.
