The numeral "two" is of extremely profound significance with various expressions in modern Chinese. Its implicit meanings are far more than its explicit meanings. The meanings of "two" in some phrases almost have nothing to do with its original meaning, thus forming a large number of phrases, idioms, proverbs, sayings etc. in fixed formats. Therefore, the teaching of the numeral "two" in TCFL can not only improve foreign students’ communicative abilities to use Chinese, but also promote the smooth cross- cultural communication through the combination of the teaching of "two" and its culture.The main contents of this thesis are as follows:1. It expounds its purposes and significance; 2. It analyzes and discusses the syntactic and semantic features of the numeral "two" in modern Chinese, which are both systematically reviewed and specifically testified; 3. The teaching cases of Chinese numeral "two" in TCFL are discussed; 4. Based on the teaching situation of "two" in TCFL, it proposes some targeted teaching suggestions so as to deal with the common teaching problems and provide effective methods beneficial to both the teachers and students.
