Modern tourism emerges in response to people’s ever-growing material and cultural needs. Nowadays, more and more tourists desire their travel to be relaxed and comfortable, which contributes to boost the rapid development of cruise tourism. Cruise tour can not only relieve tourists from the tiredness on the journey, but can also supply spiritual and cultural services for the tourists, which makes tourists feel ease and cozy and enjoy themselves at home. Cruise tourism offers a package service that covers catering, living, transportation, travel, shopping and entertainment. It caters to the needs of travelers of all walks of life. Cruise interpreter is much different from that of other kinds of travel interprets. The quality of cruise interpreters, to a large extent, determines the quality of the tourism service on the cruise. Therefore, the author of this thesis tries to find out some effective methods of interpretation based on her own working experience on the cruise as an interpreter, in order to make some contribution to the improvement of cruise tourism interpretation, especially in the interpreting of contents that involve Chinese culture.The author has ever worked as an interpreter in two international cruise companies (full time on President No.1 Cruises and part time on Gold No.2 Cruises respectively) on the Yangtze River. Based on the working experiences, the author found that there was great room for improvement of cruise tourism interpretation. Interpreters can improve their interpreting skills by accumulating experience from the following parts:preparation before interpreting, interpreting strategies conversion and remedial measures taken in interpreting and so on. The thesis makes a case study on the interpreting of traveling along Three Gorges- the travel routine of the cruises based on Nida’s functional equivalency and the theory of tourism experience,. And the author tries to find out some effective interpretation ways for the reference of other cruise interpreters with the hope that cruise interpreters can supply high-quality service for the tourists, and have our Chinese culture better disseminated among the foreign tourists.
