Reflections On Consecutive Translation

Nowadays, with the rapid development of globalization and intense communication between countries, interpreting plays a critical role among commercial meetings, political conferences etc. Thus, the quality of consecutive translation is of great importance, since its quality will decide if the meeting will go along or the two sides will come to an agreement. Therefore, interpreting is like bridge when it comes to external exchange. And the development of interpreting has become a must for our reform and opening policy.According to different ways of working, interpreting can be divided into consecutive interpreting and simultaneous interpreting. The thesis, based on my own experience of consecutive interpreting at the 2014 Conference on Overseas Chinese Pioneering and Developing in China, describes the problems I met with during this conference and my own solution and the reflections on them.This thesis contains part of the problems and reflections during pre-meeting, while-meeting and after-meeting. Reflections on pre-meeting matters mainly include lacking of time, experience and communication etc. Reflections on while-meeting matters are mainly about the problems and solutions. The problems I met with during the conference include linguistic problems and non-linguistic problems. After reflections on those problems, I intend to provide some useful advice for related study and improve my own interpreting skills as well. And after reflections my conclusions are as follow:first, the pre-meeting preparation must be enough. Second, mental ability is the basic requirement for a qualified interpreter.
