| In consecutive interpreting,it is emphasized that "seventy percent relies on listening a nd thirty percent relies on notes".That is to say, seventy percent relies on brain and thirty p ercent relies on note-taking.In the process of learning interpretation, teachers often tell stu dents that notes are only auxiliary tools and do not let notes become the only factor affectin g the quality of interpretation. However,in actual interpreting activities, translators rely on notes to a great extent. They are much higher than your imagination, especially in large pro fessional meetings where note-taking matters a lot.The quality of notes is affected by a var iety of internal and external factors.A bad note is caused by a variety of reasons, such as th e problem of the speaker, the surrounding environment or even the interpreter himself.A good note will improve the quality of the interpretation, enhance the translator’s con fidence in translation, improve fluency and serve as an icing on the cake.On the contrary,a bad note will reduce the quality of interpretation and seriously affect the reputation of an interpreter. Therefore,it is necessary to clarify the questions in note-taking skills and impr ove note-taking methods.Based on consecutive interpretation of China forum mock meetin g of former ambassador to China South Korea Daniel lee heng speeches held on November15,2017 in Seoul,South Korea, the author summarized in a series of questions in han con secutive interpretation as an interpreter, such as translation error, missing translation and m ishandling of notes which cause difficulties in the process of translation. There are many external causes of such aituation, such as the speaker’s own porblems(accent, speed, logic abruption and long sentences),imperfect interpretation environment and equipment and sp eciality of Korean. This paper will focus on the internal reasons for the low-quality note-ta king, such as lack of logic relation, the influence of Chinese logic on Korean logic, illegibl e handwriting, the disadvantages of Chinese note writing, the absence of language shell an d the inconsistency of note symbols.Analyzing specific cases with these factors will be hel pful to improving coping strategies of note chaos, such as how to respond to uncontrollable factors, improve note-taking,handle the relationship between notes and memory and how to make preparation before note-taking. |
