A Practice Report On The Simulated C-E Consecutive Interpretation For Press Conference Q&A Session Under The Semantic Translation And Communicative Translation Theory

After entering the pave of finishing building a moderately prosperous society in all respects in 2020,a better life with more beautiful natural environment has become various practical policies and agreements in China,which involves the implement of garbage sorting in Shanghai since July 1st last year.In telling the Chinese stories,the holding of press conferences has also become an indispensable process of the voice of China.In fact,most press conferences involve two parts:the keynote speech by the spokesmen and the Question and Answer session with the media.The interpretation of most press conferences belongs to the interpreting task in formal occasions,while the reactivity control in the Q&A Session also tests the ability of the interpreters.As an important occasion for information transmission,the need of faithful,flexible and efficient Chinese-English conversion shall be satisfied at the utmost by the interpreters in the Q&A Session.Therefore,taking the Garbage Sorting Press Conference by Shanghai Municipal Government in 2019 as an example,the thesis selects its Q&A session as the original material of the simulated consecutive interpretation.On a basis of her interpretation of the Q&A Session,the present author makes use of the Semantic Translation and Communicative Translation Theory as the theoretical framework,figures out three typical difficulties in interpreting environmental protection texts,especially on the translation of garbage classification:the keywords with background knowledge,long and complex sentences,and information-concentrated segments.Based on a comprehensive review of the performance,the author summarizes these three basic translation methods—literal translation,free translation and generalization—with the concepts and application of the semantic translation and communicative translation.In addition,some specific translation techniques such as amplification,omission,division and combination,are supplemented in the case analyses so as to provide some possible suggestions for the study of the consecutive interpretation in the Q&A Session of press conferences.The thesis begins with an introduction to the present research,introducing the research background,task profile,significance of the study and the structure of the thesis.And then the whole process of the consecutive interpretation,including the preparation before interpretation,interpreting procedure and interpretation revision,is conducted.Whereafter,the author presents a brief survey of the Semantic Translation and Communicative Translation Theory,followed by the basic concept and its application of the interpretation.Next,a case study of three typical methods adopted in the analyses of consecutive interpretation is performed,as well as the difficulties and relevant analyses of her interpretation.The present study makes contributions to interpreting the process of the Q&A Session of press conferences and hopes to offer certain reference for the consecutive interpretation and simultaneous interpretation of the environmental protection text.Through the case report of the material on garbage sorting,the author would like to introduce the new information of environmental protection in China,pursuing the joint effect of the earth villagers for a better and green environment.
