| This research is a comparative study about JingHao’s theory of six-gist and XieHe’s theory of six-method. In Chinese painting history, JingHao and XieHe are the old masters, painting theorists of figure and landscape paintings, especially their painting theories, Note Act, Appreciation on Old Paintings, have a profound impact, and they are the milestones for Chinese Painting. Note Act appeared after Appreciation on Old Paintings. Although considerable research has been done to investigate these two paintings, so far there are few studies on analyzing and comparing their relationships. In this paper, the author put the JingHao’s Note Act as entry point, then introduced his book and theory briefly in order to elicit the paper’s essential-the research of relationships between both stuff. By contrasting the relationships between the two layers, which leads to the conclusion that JingHao’s Note Act is the inheritance and development for the XieHe’s Appreciation on Old Paintings, they have made a great contribution for the history of painting.This paper is divided into four parts, the first part is to study the current status of the academic theory on the relationship between the two paintings, there is the problem of presentation; the second part is to introduce the background and the cause of Jing Hao’s Note Act; the third part is focused on comparative study about Jing Hao’s Note Act and XieHe’s Appreciation on Old Paintings, the difference between its contact, inheritance and development done in-depth analysis and discussion; the last part of the paper clarifies the contribution and impact of Jing Hao’s Note Act on the landscape and the landscape of future generations.Jing Hao’s Note Act inherited and developed the essence of XieHe’s Appreciation on Old Paintings, it has important research value. In this paper, the author corresponded JingHao’s Note Act and XieHe’s Appreciation on Old Paintings one to one, that can show their differences and connections intuitively and obtain the understanding and assessment by comparing their relationships.Ancient Chinese painting theory not only provided important clues and historical data for researching the history of ancient Chinese painting and drawing, but also laid a solid theoretical foundation for our future generations of painting techniques and methods.
